FAQ’s

‣
What is Gitcoin Grants and how does it work?

Gitcoin Grants is our grants program to support both early stage and established builders in Web3. We use Quadratic Funding (QF) to amplify the impact of community donations, meaning the more unique contributors a project has, the more matching funds it receives. This allows smaller donations to have a larger collective impact. We also use metrics-based Retroactive Funding for mature, high-impact initiatives.

‣
What is Quadratic Funding (QF)?

Quadratic Funding is a funding model that maximizes the impact of community contributions. It prioritizes projects with broader support, meaning that even small donations can significantly influence the amount of matching funds a project receives. This model ensures that projects with strong community backing receive more funding.

‣
Who can participate in Gitcoin Grants?

Anyone can participate in Gitcoin Grants—whether you’re a project creator looking to apply for funding or a community member looking to donate to projects that resonate with you. Gitcoin Grants is open to all participants within the Web3 ecosystem, regardless of their level of expertise or involvement.

‣
How are the projects selected for matching funds?

Projects are selected for matching funds based on the number of unique donors they attract. The more donors a project has, the more matching funds it will receive, as per the Quadratic Funding model. This ensures that projects with strong community support are prioritized.
